I couldn’t help but feel anxious as I drove deeper into rural northern Texas. The familiar coffee shops and apartment buildings of downtown Dallas faded into swaths of land with cattle and single-family homes surrounded by greenery in Allen. I would be spending the weekend in native Blackland Prairie grassland for Texas Survival School’s basic wilderness survival class.
My friends and family had mixed reactions when I told them I’d be with a bunch of strangers camping and learning to build a fire, navigate land, deliver “wilderness” first aid, learn water safety and more. Some thought it cool and exciting, others delivered a familiar axiom, “That’s white people stuff!”
So I wasn’t surprised that most of the two dozen participants — a mix of adults and children — were white. I was one of four Black people in the class, including three Black men, one of whom was an instructor. I was the only Black woman, and I caught curious glances from some of the other participants as I piled my box braids on top of my head to keep the bugs out of my hair.
Yes, none of us whities have ever seen a black woman before in our lives. Or braids. No white women braid their hair.
You’re right to suspect we’re “glancing at you curiously,” rather than just looking at every single person in the room at one time or another because we’ve gone out to meet new people in a group and when you do that, you look at everyone present.
If white people weren’t looking she’d complain that they were averting their eyes.
Taking this wilderness class seemed like a natural extension of my love of the outdoors, but my own isolation in the course made me wonder whether the old axiom was true to an extent. Was communing deeply with nature truly a “white thing?” I found that that couldn’t be further from the truth. Not only does Black culture boast a rich history with nature, Black people across the country are reclaiming the outdoors by forming their own communities of nature enthusiasts.
In other word: segregated black groups to “reclaim the outdoors.”
So now comes my least favorite phase of every new Trump indictment, the ranting by Trump’s more passionate defenders that Ron DeSantis isn’t doing enough to defend the man who slurs him as a pedophile and homosexual!! His statements aren’t STRONG enough in swearing for the honor of a man who smears him dishonorably!!! and that Trump’s legal problems — almost all of which are self-inflicted– are a reason to elect him president to fuck up all over the place some more, rather than a reason to elect a strong president who will pardon Trump and let him live peacefully and free as a private citizen.
Every one of Trump’s problems gets weaponized against DeSantis, and then people wonder — Gee, why aren’t DeSantis’ supporters more interested in talking about Trump’s problems?
Tell you what: If Trump issues a STRONG statement clearing him from the previous lies that DeSantis is a pedophile, gay, cheats on his wife, killed more people with Covid than Democrat governors Newsom or Cuomo, then I’ll join you in your calls for STRONG statements clearing Trump of crimes which, let’s face it, he probably did commit.

Using family members as fronts, and the prerogatives of elected office as bait, he has presided over a bribe-collection business that has leveraged U.S. foreign policy and foreign aid to rake in millions for the clan, mostly or entirely from business interests aligned with the worst of our adversaries on the foreign stage.

That means they let her go free.
Megan Imirowicz, 19, could have faced a life sentence over the death of her 64-year-old father, Konrad, with whom she was angry because he was too drunk to take her to a hair appointment.
He did not die quickly or pleasantly:
While in hospital, Konrad [Imirowicz] had his legs amputated, endured multiple infections, a tracheotomy, skin grafts and kidney dialysis, reports The Oakland Press.

Meet Michael Bray of Holly Springs, North Carolina. Michael was arrested after he drove to a local Sheetz store with an improvised bomb in his vehicle. Wow, I always thought Michael Bay’s films were awful, but this is ridiculous.
Oh, that’s the producer, not the terrorist.
Police said officers were conducting a business check of the Sheetz when they noticed a man, identified as 50-year-old Norman Michael Bray, acting suspiciously.
Police then located Bray’s 1999 Toyota 4Runner in the parking lot of the Sheetz. During the course of the investigation, officers found “controlled, dangerous substances, hazardous materials and an improvised explosive device” inside the vehicle.
Okay, there are a lot of problems here. First, who builds a bomb in their home? Second, what kind of moron drives around with a bomb in their vehicle? Finally, who would want to bomb a Sheetz? It’s a great place with good food and decent prices!

Good morning, kids. So, now even more charges are being dumped on Donald Trump, this time involving his alleged mishandling of documents. Or is it related to the supposed “insurrection” of January 6th in which the only violence that was perpetrated was by cops and “glowie” goons against innocent civilians? Or is it both? Not that it matters. They want Trump behind bars forever, regardless of if there will be any kind of reaction from the citizenry. Revolutions were touched off for far less than this, and they were “mostly peaceful.”
When a white person guns down a black person, in any circumstance, the default explanation is racism, hate crime and so forth. None of that with Audrey Hale, who pretty much got a pass from the media and the White House.
Joe Biden failed to identify or condemn the shooter, failed to name a single murder victim, and did not attend any of the funerals. Biden’s press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre said, “Our hearts go out to the trans community as they are under attack right now.” In reality, the trans forces are on the attack, becoming more hostile.
“Trantifa,” a combination of transgender and Antifa, denotes a “far-left trans movement spreading across [the] U.S” and “intimidating and physically assaulting those who disagree with them. Trans swimmer Lia Thomas was recently photographed wearing a black T-shirt reading “Antifa Super Soldier.” Call it violence signaling.
“Trans violent militancy is the current focus of #Antifa,” contends journalist Andy Ngo. “They believe that critics of trans ideology should be silenced, maimed or murdered. Some call for sexual violence against females in particular, as revenge.”
In the run-up to the April 1 “Trans Day of Vengeance,” Audrey Hale murdered Evelyn Dieckhaus, William Kinney, Hallie Scruggs, Katherine Koonce, Cynthia Peak and Mike Hill. Hale’s manifesto remains under wraps, but her slaughter of six in Nashville could be a sign of “trantifa” violence to come.
Mystery Company Makes $800M Purchase of California Farmland Near Air Base
After a mysterious company suddenly made a nearly billion-dollar purchase of farmland surrounding an air base in California, some in Congress are sounding the alarm over national security concerns.
According to the Washington Free Beacon, over 52,000 acres worth of land in Solano County was purchased for $800 million; the land surrounds Travis Air Force Base. The purchase was made by a company called Flannery Associates, with a company attorney claiming that it is registered in Delaware and controlled by U.S. citizens, receiving at least 97 percent of its capital from American investors, with the remaining 3 percent from Irish and British investors. Nevertheless, the company’s low profile and sudden mass purchase of such strategically significant land has raised alarms in Congress.
Academic courses have become a vehicle for Marxist ideology, using “culturally relevant teaching” demands.
California has approved new radical K-12 math standards that are openly a vehicle for Marxist ideology. The stated goal is equity in math learning for non-whites and those from low-income families. The framework notes that “black, latinx, indigenous, women and poor students” have been underrepresented in the curriculum throughout history.” Equity will be implemented in the curriculum by dumbing down and sugar-coating the lessons and infusing them with political issues and student organizing.
Tom Loveless, education researcher and former Brookings Institute fellow, predicted that the new framework “would place Golden State 6th graders years behind the rest of the world—and could eventually skew education in the rest of the U.S., too.”
The framework boldly states that “teaching toward social justice can play an important role in shifting students’ perspectives,” with reference to Constantinos Xenofontos’ 2019 book, Equity in Mathematics Education: Addressing a Changing World. The author notes that education for social justice has its roots in Brazilian Marxist education theorist, Paulo Freire. Xenofontos contends that teachers should “discuss controversial topics,” and “allow social issues to drive instruction.” To teach social justice and equity successfully, teachers must be activists themselves.

A team at Penn State received a $25 million grant from the U.S. Department of Agriculture to study reduction in dairy farm methane emissions by using what the agency calls “climate-smart” practices.
The research will include 70 farms across Pennsylvania that will be selected with help from the Center for Dairy Excellence, a nonprofit created by the state agriculture department. Those will include farms of various sizes and owned by underrepresented groups to help identify methods that work best for them.
The goal is to provide measurable reductions in methane emissions from cows. Methane is a more potent greenhouse gas than carbon dioxide.
