Anything that has a lithium-ion battery needs cobalt. The bulk of the world’s cobalt comes from the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). There is one major problem with that.

However, independent investigations conducted in recent years by the United Nations International Children’s Emergency Fund (UNICEF) and Amnesty International have documented how many cobalt mines located in the DRC employ child laborers. The Biden administration also released a report in October showing that child labor continues to take place in the mines.

“Many children we spoke to told us that they were frequently ill. Inhaling cobalt dust can cause hard metal lung disease — a potentially fatal condition,” a 2016 Amnesty International report stated. “Skin contact with cobalt can cause dermatitis — a chronic rash. Yet the children and other miners have neither masks nor gloves to protect them.”

Well , the left is showing the world what their priorities are, and those priorities are not for children’s welfare

Joe Biden will face fresh accusations of meddling in the lives of American households after his administration announced a green crackdown on dishwashers.

His Department of Energy quietly released tighter rules for the home appliances on Friday afternoon as millions of people across the country prepared to celebrate Cinco de Mayo. . . . .

The rules, which form part of the administration’s climate change agenda, would slash water use by more than one-third and cut energy use limits by 27% for dishwashers in the U.S.

Any changes would only apply to new models on sale once the new rules have officially come into effect, expected to be 2027.

The new rules would force manufacturers to limit dishwashers to using 3.2 gallons of water per cycle, far below the current federal limit of 5 gallons.

There they go again, the Nanny State Stalinists. What will be next? How much food, and what type of food we are allowed to have? If we may own pets? How much money we may have in the bank? Books we may not possess, and books we MUST have? There really is no end is there? No, there isn’t.

One issue state and federal legislators are considering—apart from trying to mandate EVs and do away with conventionally fueled vehicles—is mileage taxes for EVs. This is necessary, you see, because excise taxes are charged at the pump. EVs, particularly if they charge at home, can’t be similarly, or reliably, charged. Circa January, 2022, the average gas tax was 31.02 cents per gallon, with the federal rate being 18.4 cents.

AHA! They are comin for even more money because Marxists are GREEDY!

As regular readers know, “fuel” costs for EVs are not, in fact, cheaper than for conventional vehicles. Oh, but EVs have all kinds of other ways of being cheaper! Perhaps, perhaps not, but that goes out the window when a battery, which costs 1/3+ the price of a new EV—current average $66,000—must be replaced.

What those pushing for EV mileage taxes are saying very, very, quietly, or not at all, are their true intentions. Such a tax would require mandatory hardware and software to monitor mileage in real time. Such devices would also allow the government to know not only how much you were driving, but where, and certainly, with whom, also in real time. Our self-imagined elite masters surely would not stop there. There would inevitably be mileage limits. Exceed your monthly limit and your vehicle would be shut off. And for “safety” purposes, there would surely be cameras and microphones in EVs to detect any anti-climate change wrong think.

The are many, but the impacts on agriculture will kill people, and the impact on metallurgy will kill economies.

“No one is making nitrogen-based fertilizer in Europe anymore. No one is smelting aluminum anymore. A lot of the steel foundries are shutting down.”

Modern agriculture is dependent on nitrogen fertilizer. Aluminum is an energy expensive business, as is producing steel.

I ponder how bad this will get, and not just for Germany. This “green” boondoggle will be very very hard for so many millions across the globe. All to pad the pockets of many who, already have damn big pockets. And, to appease climate fanatics of course.

No, not Lurch, John Kerry is our “Climate Czar” which, basically means he gets paid to fly around A LOT of polluting private jets to tell everyone how BAD polluting is. In other words he is getting richer by polluting. H/T MRC TV

Collin Anderson writes for the Washington Free Beacon that Mr. Kerry is keeping up his holier-than-thou hypocrisy:
“In his role as President Joe Biden’s climate czar, John Kerry has flown more than 180,000 miles—flights that emitted more than 9.5 million pounds of carbon, a Washington Free Beacon analysis found.”

Likely that Czar Kerry might want to chastise them for doing that analysis. After all, how much energy did they use conducting it?

An important question. I mean this issue is SOOOOO important to John “F@#$ing” Kerry, so how much carbon have travels created?

“The Free Beacon reviewed 75 of Kerry’s official travel announcements from March 2021 to July 2022, which show Kerry has flown roughly 180,100 miles—the equivalent of traveling around the world more than seven times—to discuss climate change with various world leaders. Planes on average produce 53.3 pounds of carbon dioxide per mile traveled, according to carbon emissions modeling website BlueSkyModel, meaning Kerry’s flights have produced 9.54 million pounds, or 4,772 tons, of carbon—roughly 300 times the average American’s carbon footprint for an entire year. From May 13, 2021, to May 19, 2021, for example, Kerry traveled to Rome, London, and Berlin before returning stateside. Those flights total roughly 10,100 miles and 538,000 pounds of carbon.”

See, ZERO CARBON Kerry is actually one of the most egregious polluters out there. He might have a carbon foot print bigger than some neighborhoods, BUT we must listen to him and obey

New York, along with other states, is moving forward with massive wind turbine projects.
The push for “9,000 megawatts of offshore wind energy” comes at a high price, not only for families who are left dependent on expensive and unreliable energy, but for the planet.
Wind turbines require massive amounts of rare earths for their generators and motors. A single wind turbine eats up tons of rare earth metals. Rare earth mining carried out in China is horrifyingly destructive to people and the environment.
One story described radioactive lakes, high cancer rates and villagers whose “teeth began to fall out” and “hair turned white at unusually young ages”. “Children were born with soft bones and cancer rates rocketed.”
A recent Associated Press story about rare earth mining operations in Burma told of a world where “birds no longer sing, and the herbs no longer grow. The fish no longer swim in rivers that have turned a murky brown.”
An offshore wind turbine can produce somewhere between 9 and 14 megawatts depending on its size. New York’s goal would require a thousand offshore wind turbines. Fiberglass wind turbine blades can’t be recycled and end up in massive landfills where they remain, according to one executive, “forever”. But within the fiberglass sheath is balsa wood that can be recycled

It goes on and on, nothing but a massive scam, a scam that will make certain people very rich, and the health of the planet? Please go read it all

A “Green” future? Your gonna need candles

Thaddeus McCotter has a good piece up at American Greatness about what we can expect from a “green” future.

When I was in Congress, I once went on a fact-finding trip to Pakistan. At the time, the country was being wracked by a terrorist bombing campaign intended, in large part, to destabilize the government of President Pervez Musharraf. What I found, however, was that President Musharraf was facing another threat to his rule.
During a brief stay in Islamabad, my hotel room suddenly went dark one evening. It wasn’t terrorism. It was a rolling power blackout. Earlier, I had heard firsthand accounts of the dissatisfaction this caused Pakistanis, including how the rolling blackouts facilitated extremism’s spread and tactics. The blame for the blackout was placed squarely on Musharraf. As I looked out my window across an eerily darkened capital city, given all the challenges facing them, I couldn’t help but pity the Pakistani people for having to endure yet another tribulation: having to live with such a substandard power grid.
Now, the Pakistani people can pity me.
Per Fox News, the apocalyptic climate cult is bringing their rolling blackouts to Michigan to benight the state whose ingenious, hardworking people and the unparalleled industrial prowess they built and operated had once put the world on wheels and kept the world safe.
For those paying more than performative attention, the climate cult has openly waged war on fossil fuels, the internal combustion engine, the Industrial Revolution, and capitalism in general. That these discoveries, inventions, and means of production spurred the largest and widest increase in prosperity, life expectancy, and personal comfort and safety matters little to these zealots.
Somewhere in the dust bin of history, America’s historic mortal enemies like Nazi Germany and the Soviet Union must be applauding the apocalyptic Left’s progress in devolving Detroit (the “Motor City” and “Arsenal of Democracy”) into a candle-lit urban farm.

Please go read it all, it is excellent, and frightening because all these negative sides to “Green” are not hard to predict, and they are not an unfortunate side effect to “saving” our planet. Instead, they are all part of the Marxist plans.

Democrats can never make the situation so awful that they will not deliberately make it worse. Their control of the federal government means skyrocketing gas prices because of the Biden Regime’s War on Oil. Their tighter control of California means that, pricey as gas is in the country as a whole (currently $4.61), it is pricier still in the Land of Fruits and Nuts (currently $5.99). The price will climb even higher after Democrats make the product scarcer by forbidding the construction of new gas stations:

Last year, Petaluma Councilwoman D’Lynda Fischer led the way to prohibiting new gas stations in her city of 60,000 people, the Los Angeles Times reported. …
This has since kicked off a movement among Californians to bring about more green energy policies by banning the building of future gas stations.

Stupid in its purest form. If people cannot find gas, the planet will survive or something. Of course the devastation wrought be such madness would be incalculable. But that is the price Marxist central planners are willing for ~~everyone~~ others to pay. Could this idea get any worse you ask? Voila!

In his proposal, current gas stations would also be limited — no new pumps or repairs would be permitted. Only electric vehicle charging stations would be allowed.

Climate activists expand tire-slashing operation beyond NYC. Here are the cities they’ve hit
The U.K. climate group whose members deflated tires on an estimated 40 vehicles in New York City last month recently announced similar actions in cities nationwide.
The Tyre Extinguishers, which encourages activists to deflate tires of parked sports utility vehicles (SUV) to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, said it has already spread to Chicago and the San Francisco area this month. Individuals affiliated with the group have deflated the tires of 20 SUVs in Chicago, another 20 SUVs in Scranton, Pa., and 12 SUVs near San Francisco this month, according to the group.
“It can happen anywhere, anytime,” a spokesperson for the group told Fox News Digital in an email. “If you’re reading this and you own an SUV, scrap it before we get to it.”
The spokesperson previously told Fox News Digital that the group expected to “expand massively” across the U.S. in the coming weeks.

Climate change is white colonisation of the atmosphere. It’s time to tackle this entrenched racism
“Climate change is racist”. So reads the title of a recent book by British journalist Jeremy Williams. While this title might seem provocative, it’s long been recognised that people of colour suffer disproportionate harms under climate change – and this is likely to worsen in the coming decades.
However, most rich white countries, including Australia, are doing precious little to properly address this inequity. For the most part, they refuse to accept the climate debt they owe to poorer countries and communities.
In so doing, they sentence millions of people to premature death, disability or unnecessary hardship. This includes in Australia, where climate change compounds historical wrongs against First Nations communities in many ways.
This injustice – a type of “atmospheric colonisation” – is a form of deeply entrenched colonial racism that arguably represents the most pressing global equity issue of our time. Several upcoming global talks, including the Pacific Islands Forum this week, offer a chance to urgently elevate climate justice on the global agenda.
