I mind when they do not have a clue what they are writing about. Can I offer this advice? Just these two words fact based! Take this piece that long-time NFL writer Peter King scribbled out on his Etch-a-Sketch
He also called this country the “United States of Guns.” In his column Football Morning in America, he demanded more gun laws and called for a ban on the sales of AR-15 rifles.
OK, the “United States of Guns” how long did he pace the floor before pulling that drivel out of his, ah, well, you know
King said he “will also remember the 32 people murdered over the last 16 days in our country, in Buffalo at a supermarket, in a church in Laguna Woods, Calif., and in an elementary school in Uvalde, Texas.” He ignored the 52 people who were shot in Chicago’s weekend bloodbath.
Of course he ignored Chicago. If enhanced gun control laws were the solution to violent crime, Chicago would be paradise. KIng could have found the stats IF he were looking to write a meaningful piece. Again IF!
You can, if you choose read all of King’s babbling, emotionally-charged piece He goes after Conservatives who do not support stricter gun laws. Be saturates AR-15’s with mountains of, dare I say MIS-information without batting an eye. I wonder if King has ever been to a gun range, or engaged folks to own gun stores, or shoot regularly? I do know that King, like most gun control cultists, wanted to blame all bad things on evil guns, facts be damned. And he missed many facts.
Consider these stats on guns, crime etc.
In the very early 90’s violent crimes numbered nearly 2 million. Also, around this time, states were passing concealed carry laws Today, 24 states have Constitutional Carry laws, which allow law-abiding citizens to carry without a permit. Most of the states have “shall-issue” permits to carry concealed firearms. AR-15’s have sold like proverbial hotcakes, with more that 20 million of those semi-automatic rifles privately owned. Violent crimes with AR-15s? Very rare. Yet, it is painted as purely EVIL!
So, with nearly 2 million violent crimes a year in 1991, 92…carrying firearms for self-defense became more, and more, and more common with tens of millions of Americans carrying every day. SURELY if folks like Peter King were right, violent crime should have spiked even more in the past three decades right? NOPE!
By the late 1990’s, that rate was down, by 1/3. It hovered around 1.4 million till 2005 and then, with even more Americans legally buying, carrying firearms, violent crime began to increase fall, again!
By 2013, the number was below 1.2 million. The number has gone up since, to around 1.3 million The two largest increases coming after the BLM riots in 2014, and the George Floyd riots two years ago.
If Peter King had done some research, would his column have been different? Doubtful because King hates guns, more than he hates violent criminals apparently. Perhaps King, and others should delve into facts. Maybe he should have watched Bill Whittle? Mr. King, it AIN’T the GUNS!
