American Thinker- Free will is a myth?

After more than 40 years of studying humans and other primates, Stanford neurobiologist Robert Sapolsky has reached the conclusion that virtually all human behavior is as far beyond our conscious control as the division of cells or the beating of our hearts. (Of course, he had to.)

Therefore, we mustn’t harshly judge such heretofore disdained folks as drunk drivers, serial criminals, Hamas terrorists, and those who bring 29 items to the “8 items or less” checkout lane.

Sapolsky said:

“The world is really screwed up and made much, much more unfair by the fact that we reward people and punish people for things they have no control over. We’ve got no free will. Stop attributing stuff to us that isn’t there.”

The foolishness of banning high-capacity magazinesBearing Arms

When U.S. District Judge Roger Benitez recently handed down his decision in Duncan v. Bonta declaring that California’s ban on “large capacity” magazines violates the Second Amendment, he provided several examples where having a magazine capable of holding more than ten rounds would have been incredibly useful to the victims of violent crime, or, conversely, where lawful gun owners used their “large capacity” magazines in self-defense.

Hiding Harris?

A few days ago, Issues & Insights, one of my favorite commentary sites, published a pretty fun piece on the MIA Vice President, Kamala “Heels-Up” Harris.

Not long after Russia invaded Ukraine, Vice President Kamala Harris showcased her keen grasp of international affairs by explaining the war thusly:

“Ukraine is a country in Europe. It exists next to another country called Russia. Russia is a bigger country. Russia is a powerful country. Russia decided to invade a smaller country called Ukraine. So, basically, that’s wrong.”

Despite being true, it was widely mocked for being so incredibly insipid. Kamala wasn’t talking to kindergartners, who probably have a better grasp of world affairs than she, but to listeners of a radio program.

Now, after Hamas invaded Israel and slaughtered hundreds of innocent civilians, including beheading children, Kamala has been silent. The only time we’ve seen her was as she stood stone-faced behind President Joe Biden while he attempted to express outrage that an ally had been brutally attacked.

Gatestone Institute Intelligence failures

  • The failure of the U.S. intelligence community has three components: 1) It has become politically charged and lost focus on its mission protecting Americans, instead engaging in partisan politics. 2) It continues to focus on technological intelligence collection rather than the difficult and risky world of human intelligence collection. 3) It continues to suffer from a lack of creativity in anticipating and understanding the new threats being developed by our enemies.
  • There is little doubt that the Intelligence Community has become seriously politicized. In 2016-2017, its leaders and the FBI undermined the incoming President Donald Trump by raising the specter of Russian influence over Trump. The disproven Russia hoax would go on to shadow and undermine Trump’s entire time in office.
  • Despite warnings from the U.S. Intelligence Community, the Biden administration failed to anticipate or plan for the dramatic and quick collapse of Afghanistan’s government when U.S. troops were withdrawn.

Is it any wonder the younger generation is so malformed and wretched?

The left has destroyed everything good in this country.

VDH (scroll down): “ The university crowd’s epidemic of gushing over Hamas butchery finally tore the scab off the long-festering sore of anti- Semitic hatred and utter ignorance of history, and exposed for the world the moral bankruptcy and mediocrity that now define the American college campus.”

Issues and Insights How bad was Biden’s Speech?

In good old groups-of-three style, your correspondent could have gone several directions in describing President Joe Biden’s spiel Thursday night.

Alliterative: Cringeworthy. Crass. Craven.

Assonantal: Eerie. Airy. Arrogant.

Rhyming: Stumbling. Bumbling. Crumbling

Legal Insurrection excusing evil……

After the 2016 election, a group of black teens in Chicago were arrested after they tortured a disabled white boy, apparently for the crime of being white. To make matters worse, they streamed video of the attack on social media, where people could be heard yelling “F” white people.

We covered the story when it broke. We also followed the case and were shocked when one of the women involved got probation.

Now the ringleader has been released from prison.

Mike McDaniel

Tonight, October 19, 2023, Joe gave the second, prime time, Oval Office speech of his presidency.  It was an unsettling example of why this is only his second such address, and why his handlers are working hard to allow him to speak as little as possible in public.

To find every article in this series, enter “Israel at war, 2023” in the SMM home Page search bar.

A case in point was his appalling reply to a reporter’s question on Air Force One on his way back from his disastrous seven-hour trip to Israel:

Virtually every mass shooting, every circumstance where ‘a’ large number of people have been victimized and lost and I spoke to them. I learned a long time ago which you already knew. If someone’s going through something that’s beyond their comprehension, they never thought they’d ever go through, if they see someone they think understands or been through something not the same or similar, it gives them some sense of hope.

You know I always get criticized sometimes (unintelligible) when I go to these things I stay for three or four hours answer all their questions but it matters, it matters a lot. And look, I’m talking some of you have gone through a Hell of a lot more than I’ve gone through and a lot more than other people have gone through, you understand. And it’s just, it’s just uh people are looking for just something to grab, something that gives them some sense, sense of hope and that’s…if I can do a little bit of that then it’s worth doing (unintelligible) for me.

What the transcript doesn’t fully capture is the long pauses, where Biden stared blankly, utterly befuddled, and the halting, hesitant quality of his slurred speech.  He looks and sounds exactly like what he is: an elderly man, physically and intellectually unable to do the job, suffering increasingly from dementia, filled to the gills with drugs that allow him only to appear this weak and feeble.  Take this link to see the video for yourself.  It’s painful.  Apparently no one in his family or the White House cares about him, or America.

Moonbttery covers the stench of moral rot in San Franfreako

San Francisco is approaching peak liberalism — the point where people finally start pushing back against moonbattery:

An unhoused man who has been living across the street from a California school for more than two years is turning some heads with a sign that says, “Free fentanyl for new users.”

Evidently Adam Moore really does give free fentanyl to children.

Moore is a convicted sex offender who set up camp across the street from a Catholic grade school in San Francisco more than two years ago… Moore is on the Megan’s Law website for “lewd and lascivious acts with a child under the age of 14.” … Moore is apparently not considered a “high-risk” offender, so he does not have to follow the rule to stay 2,000 feet away from any school.

Finally a parent punched him in the face, and the police moved him along for camping on the sidewalk. Moore was even arrested on a probation violation.

Then, police decided to delay pursing the probation violation. He was out of custody Friday night.

He is pressing charges against the parent who allegedly punched him.

Pirates Cove notes Climate Change Therapy?

Climate Change Is Keeping Therapists Up at Night

Andrew Bryant can still remember when he thought of climate change as primarily a problem of the future. When he heard or read about troubling impacts, he found himself setting them in 2080, a year that, not so coincidentally, would be a century after his own birth. The changing climate, and all the challenges it would bring, were “scary and sad,” he said recently, “but so far in the future that I’d be safe

College Fix notes that academics are truly idiots

Academics, writers, and activists pledged their “solidarity” with the “Palestinian resistance” in an open letter.

“We are writers who unequivocally stand with Palestine and its fight for liberation against the illegal occupation of ‘Israel’ and the violent settler colonial apartheid state,” the letter states.

The Hamas terrorists who killed innocent civilians were part of the “resistance,” according to the letter – “the resistance bulldozed part of the fence around Gaza and some Gazans set foot outside the boundaries of their besiegement for a moment.”

Writers and institutions should take a stand in support of Palestine in several ways.
