Obesity Crisis: What Should Politicians Do?

You normally think of National Review as a journal of conservative political opinion, but an article published Tuesday about obesity fanned some flames.

“Politicians Ignoring America’s Obesity Crisis” ignited several “gubmint shouldn’t control our lives” comments, like this one:

What “political leaders” are we going to trust to manage our weight, and what tools are we willing to give them to do so?

Marxist American Library Association chief: ‘Libraries need to be sites of socialist organizing’

Addressed as “comrade” as she was about to speak, Drabinski said (emphasis in the original)

I’m Emily and I’m a librarian.

(There’s a large round of applause – the crowd knew who Emily was)

I just want to say thank you for bringing up libraries, and classroom libraries, but also school libraries of all kind, public libraries and higher education library who have been under attack in similar ways

I think your point that public education needs to be a site of socialist organizing, I think libraries really do too.

I haven’t seen that, working in libraries, but I think there’s a real opportunity here to both connect with what’s happening in public education, what’s happening in libraries, but also we need some help with libraries.

We need to be on the agenda of socialist organizing.

Big Left May Already Have Its Poster Victim for the 2024 Riot Season

Whether or not people consider Joe Biden to be the legitimate winner of the 2020 presidential election, one thing we can all agree on is that Big Left went to unprecedented lengths to destabilize and disrupt the balloting process. COVID-19 was obviously a massive part of the plan, as Leftists seized on the excuse to remove election integrity safeguards and flood the zone with mail-in ballots. Another part of the process was the fomenting and deployment of an army of rioters to apply pressure where needed.

“Never forget that back in 2020, every judge in the country had an anvil hanging over her head,” I wrote recently in an article about why election lawsuits didn’t go anywhere. “It was the so-called Summer of Love, and judges watched the news like everyone else. They saw virtually unchallenged Leftist rioters attack and burn a federal courthouse in Portland, Ore. They saw police stations in multiple cities torched while mobs tried to trap officers inside or run them over as they fled. It was understood that there was a nationwide network of street forces that could be deployed wherever pressure needed to be applied.”

NewsBusters

On Saturday, CNN weekend anchor Jim Acosta shoveled some predictable liberal activism by promoting an anti-gun group that lobbies teens by portraying guns as making people more unsafe and unseemly. That’s despite many and all evidence on the benefits of safe, self-defensive gun use.

Setting up a pre-recorded piece by correspondent Polo Sandoval, Acosta trumpeted the group that claims it isn’t part of “polarized” or “partisan debate” and not taking sides:  “A group of young online influencers wants to change the gun culture they grew up in, and these Gen Z influencers are now taking to social media — a coordinated campaign to try to curb the use of guns.”

Sandoval eagerly began: “The next time you’re scrolling through a social media stream of cooking content and how-to tutorials, you may be encouraged to be SNUG?”

Moonbattery

If there is one thing the head of a teacher’s union would know, it is not to let your own kids anywhere near the public schools they control. Sure enough:

Stacy Davis-Gates is undoubtedly Illinois’ most prominent and rabid opponent of school choice — and pretty much everybody and everything associated with it, all of which she labels racist or worse. As president of the Chicago Teachers Union, she is at the forefront of its campaign to kill Illinois’ meager Invest in Kids Act, which currently gives about 9,000 disadvantaged kids scholarships to attend private schools. …

But, as initially reported by SubX News, she sends one of her kids to Chicago’s De La Salle Institute, a private, Catholic high school.

Even moonbats care about their own offspring, when they aren’t aborting them.

Stacy shrieks that school choice is racist. Listen to her pile on the BS during a webinar:

The Common Good strategy is a benefit for my leadership. What it does is that it provides instant legitimacy for my experience at the coalition table. I am a black woman and I am in labor, there ain’t a lot of us here leading at this level. … I’m also a mother, my children go to the Chicago public school. These are things that help to legitimize my space within the coalition but also helps to amplify my voice as a leader in labor because a white dude whose kids go to school in the suburbs can’t really have that same voice in the same way. … I’m not asking other people to make a sacrifice that my family isn’t making. So this is a very authentic place that I’m in.
