American Greatness

This Pride Stuff Isn’t Healthy
You don’t get credit for, shouldn’t be proud of, and have no right to demand others celebrate something you
had nothing to do with.

Ihave never understood ethnic, race, gender, or sex pride. Even as a kid.

For my bar mitzvah, someone gave me a book titled Great Jews in Sports or something like it.

Aside from the usual jokes—it was not a long book; the print and the photos were very large—what I remember best was that I had little interest in the book. I loved sports. And I strongly identified as a Jew—I was raised in an Orthodox Jewish home and attended yeshivas until the age of 19. So, my disinterest in the book didn’t emanate from either disinterest in sports or disinterest in Jews. I was keenly interested in both.

But even at the age of 13, the idea of ethnic pride meant little to me.

DeSantis is right on Disney

There are many pixels being spent to make it appear that Florida and Governor DeSantis are being unfair to Disney and, as a result, have lost an investment opportunity.  Neither assertion is true.  None of the claims by politicians will make them true.  It’s understandable that Democrats make these claims.  It’s neither understandable nor forgivable that Republicans like Pence, Haley, and Trump join in.

To understand the situation, it’s best to start at the beginning.  In the 1960s Florida granted Disney local government control over 27,000 acres of land that straddles Orange and Osceola counties.  The area was called the Reedy Creek Development District.

Nobody paid much attention to this sweetheart deal until 2022.  The Legislature passed a law prohibiting schools from teaching sexual orientation and gender identity from kindergarten through third grade.  The prohibition has been upgraded to include all grade levels.  Disney aggressively opposed the law and was prominent in slurring it as the “Don’t Say Gay law.”

Armed felon shot by clerk at New Orleans Dollar General store

A New Orleans man is facing serious charges, as well as recovering from his injuries, after allegedly pulling a gun on a Dollar General clerk in New Orleans, Louisiana.

While the incident happened back in April, the arrest of 49-year-old Roderick Bennett didn’t make local headlines until recently, when police arrested Bennett on charges of aggravated assault with a firearm along with illegally possessing the gun as a convicted felon.

Police said Bennett was arguing an item’s price April 11 with an employee at the Dollar General store in the 2800 block of South Claiborne Avenue. A witness told them that Bennett pointed a gun at the employee, prompting the employee to shoot him in the chest.

THE MYTH OF WHITE SUPREMACY

The 1891 lynching of 11 Italians in New Orleans, after a roundup of over 1,000 Italians, grew out of an internal conflict among Louisiana Democrats and was praised by progressives of the era.

“These sneaking and cowardly Sicilians, the descendants of bandits and assassins,” the New York Times editorial board railed. “Lynch law was the only course open to the people of New Orlea

Shockingly, our infrastructure is nowhere close to ready for government-mandated plug-in electric vehicles!

Should it really be any surprise that, as politics have pushed ending fossil fuel usage to fight global warming climate change emergency, not everything is proceeding in an orderly manner? From Popular Mechanics

The taller the turbine, the more epic the tumble

The taller the wind turbine, the harder they fall. And they sure are falling.Wind turbine failures are on the uptick, from Oklahoma to Sweden and Colorado to Germany, with all three of the major manufacturers admitting that the race to create bigger turbines has invited manufacturing issues, according to a report from Bloomberg.

Multiple turbines that are taller than 750 feet are collapsing across the world, with the tallest—784 feet in stature—falling in Germany in September 2021. To put it in perspective, those turbines are taller than both the Space Needle in Seattle and the Washington Monument in Washington, D.C. Even smaller turbines that recently took a tumble in Oklahoma, WisconsinWales, and Colorado were about the height of the Statue of Liberty.
