Three minutes after the killer entered the Uvalde elementary school, where he shot 19 students and two teachers on May 24, there were already enough armed police officers on the scene to stop him, according to [Colonel Steve McCraw,] the Texas Department of Public Safety’s director.
They had enough people. The door was unlocked. But police are not charged with saving you, they are not even charged with saving children. They can’t be held accountable for not saving anyone. They can’t be held accountable for doing stupid sh*t. They can, in VERY rare circumstances, be held accountable for violating some civil right, but the circumstances are very limited.
Uvalde School District Police Chief Pete Arredondo, according to McCraw, “decided to put the officers’ lives before the lives of the children.”
