American Greatness

Can We Trust Republicans to Stand up to Big Tech and Telecom Censorship?

The GOP has talked long enough about the problem of censorship. It’s time to act.

Gun Banning and Social Contempt

In attempting to make sense of things, one should always look to the insights of the wise and the experienced. But one should also heed the occasional ill-considered outbursts of loud-mouthed idiots, since these too can be quite enlightening. A ranting partisan sometimes gives the game away by thoughtlessly blurting out the cynical thinking behind their own lousy ideas. Such inadvertent and ill-advised slips make it far easier to emotionally reverse engineer partisan stances that more skilled advocates all too often succeed in dressing up as serious proposals.

When Republicans took control of the House of Representatives in 1994, Democratic representative Charlie Rangel reacted by exclaiming: “It’s not ‘spic’ or ‘(n-word)’ any more. (Instead Republicans) say ‘let’s cut taxes.'” Rangel’s remark underscored the absurdity of treating every policy difference as grounds for racial accusation by deploying the strategy in a ridiculous context, thereby exposing the emptiness of screaming “racist” at everything. His little eruption gave away the standard Democratic approach, and highlighted its absurdity.

Armed employees fight back in Seattle, Myrtle Beach robberies

Violent crime is soaring in Seattle these days, reaching a 15-year high in 2022 and no sign that 2023 will be any better. Washington State lawmakers have responded to the increased violence in recent years not by getting tough on criminals but by passing a series of gun control measures aimed at legal gun owners, and are poised to enact even more anti-2A bills this year, including a ban on so-called assault weapons.

While these measures have proven to be complete failures in terms of improving public safety, so far they haven’t prevented more Washingtonians from embracing their right to armed self-defense. And on Monday afternoon, one Seattle man was forced to draw his gun to protect his life when an armed robber walked into a smoke shop in the city’s Ballard neighborhood and opened fire.

Pete Buttigieg Gets Bad News from Congressman Regarding His Handling of Ohio Crisis

Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg is being slammed by an Ohio congressman whose constituency is at the center of a devastating train derailment.

On Saturday, GOP Rep. Bill Johnson spoke with Fox News about the Feb. 3 disaster in which a train carrying toxic chemicals derailed near the town of East Palestine, Ohio, resulting in the town and surrounding area being polluted with toxic chemicals.

But he saved his most damning criticism for Joe Biden’s transportation secretary, Pete Buttigieg. He slammed Buttigieg for not showing his face following the disaster, giving him an “F” for his response to the situation.

ANIMAL’S DAILY SILENT CAL NEWS

One of the Twentieth Century’s best, and least recognized, Presidents may well have been Calvin Coolidge.  “Silent Cal” pushed economic policies intended to favor producers, and those policies worked.  The American Spectator has a piece by Amity Shlaes that’s worth reading.  Excerpt:

“Silent Cal” was his nickname. But like many shy powerhouses, he was only selectively shy. When it came to businesses’ contributions to American welfare, he spoke up often, with none of the inhibitions of modern Republicans. “The man who builds a factory builds a temple,” and “the man who works there worships there,” Coolidge said at one point before his presidency, an image so brash one can scarcely imagine it being offered at CPAC today.
