  1. Just about every word in that Shopping Cart Theory is complete BS.

First, it has nothing to do with “self-governing.” Self-governing means you can make your own decisions. Not mindlessly follow someone else’s made up rule.

It is NOT necessarily easy and convenient, and we do NOT all recognize it as the correct or appropriate thing to do. If you got the cart from somewhere out in the parking lot, you already did a good deed in using it. You have no obligation to leave it anywhere other than where you found it. Someone with a small child might prefer to have a cart near where they parked so they don’t have to carry that child across a busy parking lot.

Returning the cart (presumably to the store entrance) is NOT objectively right; it is subjectively right according to some self-righteous asshole.

There are plenty of situation other than dire emergencies where not returning the cart is the right decision. You may have small children with you that you should not leave unattended in the vehicle. It may be late at night and the parking lot is a transition zone and not safe to spend any more time in than necessary. You may have picked up the cart out there in the parking lot in the first place.

Returning the cart “out of the goodness of your heart” is a meaningless, emotional charged concept. Clearly someone wants to be a judgmental asshole and make rules for other people and feel like they are virtuous. Egotistical morons.

Fuck people who think they know what makes someone else a good or bad member of society. Shove it up your ass, Karens.
