Where has wisdom gone?

0 0
Read Time:1 Minute, 23 Second

Dennis Prager, writing at American Greatness diagnoses one of if not the biggest issue with our country. Where the Hell has wisdom gone?

In the present Age of No Wisdom, the best educated—usually the same people who most lack wisdom—dismiss the unique moral accomplishment of America’s founders because most of them owned slaves. Fools—the term for people who lack wisdom—judge the founders by our time, not by their time—a time when slavery was universal.

Wisdom can sometimes be a product of aging, but given how many old fools there are and how many young people have some degree of wisdom, it should be clear that wisdom, like math, a foreign language, or any other discipline, must be taught. Only then is one likely to become wiser with age. Otherwise, a young person without wisdom is most likely to become an old person without wisdom.

The wisest man I ever knew was my grandfather. He never got past 9th grade. But he understood that many truths are really not complicated, they are simple. The Founders of America were wise, they accepted that certain truths were basic. The right to worship, or not, the right to speak, to own property, to raise their kids, to associate with who you pleased, and the right to self-defense? Those were natural rights. Gifts from a Creator. No man or government gave those to mankind, so no man could take them away.

The Founders also were wise in seeing a future time when slavery would be gone, they put in place mechanisms for that to happen. Sadly, so many of us refuse to see that.

And then, the knuckle dragging left canceled a Scottish philosopher from the 1700’s

Read Time:2 Minute, 27 Second

Yes, really. Being offended, or at least pretending to be offended, aggrieved, butt hurt, triggered is some people’s idea of fun I guess. Remember when the left decried the right for being closed minded?

So, who got canceled this time……………David Hume. Who? You ask, well, The Other McCain has your answer

“Don’t worry,” they told us, “it’s just a few Confederate statues.”

Next thing you know, the woke mob has come for . . . David Hume?

The University of Edinburgh has seen its donations slump by almost £2 million after it “cancelled” the philosopher David Hume over his slavery links.

The institution said that 24 donations and 12 legacies had been “cancelled, amended or withdrawn” in response to the September 2020 renaming of a prominent campus building dedicated to its former student, one of the leading figures of the Scottish enlightenment.

While he argued against the institution of slavery, Hume was condemned by student activists largely for a footnote in a 1758 essay in which he said he was “apt to suspect the negroes to be naturally inferior to the whites”.

The David Hume Tower was rechristened 40 George Square with the university claiming that while Hume’s opinions were “not uncommon” when he wrote them more than 250 years ago, they “rightly cause distress today”.

(Hat-tip: Ed Driscoll at Instapundit.) Years ago, when the SPLC (and the once-influential Little Green Footballs) tried to “cancel” me, I took solace in knowing that my many friends would reject this smear and, more than a decade down the line, everyone now sees how this Thought Police tendency has run completely amok — as some of us predicted it would.

Seems that Hume was anti-slavery, in the 18t century, pretty progressive of him frankly. And, when I say progressive, I mean someone who was ahead of their time, someone wanting truly positive change. But, Hume thought, like so many in his day that Blacks were inherently inferior. On that he was, of course wrong, but in wanting to end the barbarism of slavery, he was right, and ahead of his time.

The Other McCain has lots more to say, and you should go read them all. These activists are bigots, they love to destroy, to tear down, and to control what others say, read, and believe. In fact, there are no more brazen bigots than these “activists” and they must be confronted rather than appeased. They truly are the worst types of cowards.

When challenged they run from discussion or debate. They much prefer to intimidate anyone standing up to them. They will call you racist, or homophobe, or any other assorted slurs. They will try to ruin your name, and reputation. If they can destroy your career? All the better for them. Your choice is really allowing them to destroy you, or standing up and pushing back. Please, choose wisely

Some Conservatives did not stand up when the Woke Brigades came for Confederate monuments, so…..

Read Time:57 Second

What is happening to the historic tours at the homes of Madison and Jefferson is really partly on the damned fools who did not stand up when the left came for Confederate monuments, holidays, memorials, and noble men like Robert E. Lee and Stonewall Jackson. You cannot appease the left and win

A few years ago, when the left started demanding the removal of historic statues, they insisted that it was just about the Confederacy. Critics were accused of being paranoid.

Now we’re at the point where American history is being distorted at the homes of America’s founding fathers.

This actually surprises some people? I am not accusing Mr. LaChance, who authored the piece of not standing up earlier. I have no idea if he did or did not. I am pointing my finger at too many Republicans that did nothing as noble soldiers were smeared. Senators that OK’d taking Confederate generals names off military bases, and who said nothing when monuments were defaced or torn down? They played the part of cowards and fools. Now they are offended? They helped start this garbage by NOT STANDING UP SOONER!

And then, the Left tried to erase the Father of the Constitution

0 0
Read Time:56 Second

We knew that Thomas Jefferson’s home is being beset by leftist propaganda, so, we all kinda knew James Madison would receive similar treatment didn’t we?

The globalist billionaire who funded the woke transformation of Thomas Jefferson’s Monticello paid for a similar overhaul of James Madison’s house — where the author of the US Constitution has been shoved into a supporting role, while slavery and racism take center stage.

No American flags fly at Montpelier, Madison’s plantation home in rural Virginia, and not a single display focuses on the life and accomplishments of America’s foremost political philosopher, who created our three-branch federal system of government, wrote the Bill of Rights and the Federalist Papers, and served two terms as president.

Instead, blindsided tourists are hammered by high-tech exhibits about Madison’s slaves and current racial conflicts, thanks to a $10 million grant from left-leaning philanthropist David M. Rubenstein

Truly despicable, go read the whole thing, it should enrage you. The media, of course could blow the lid off of this, IF they did not have an agenda

How crucial is it for Americans to understand America is a Republic, NOT a Democracy?

0 0
Read Time:2 Minute, 16 Second

The Other McCain explains

America’s form of government is unique among nations, in that we are a federal republic. Other nations may call themselves such, but they do not have our distinct history, in which 13 separate British colonies, having fought and won a war for independence from their homeland, then developed a new charter for their combined government as a federation of states. As a condition of ratifying that charter, the constitutional conventions of several states — most particularly Virginia — insisted that it must be amended to include guarantees of certain rights.

Most of the provisions of the Bill of Rights address what the Americans had inherited from the Whig tradition in England (e.g., religious freedom, trial by jury, etc.) or else seek to prevent the sort of abuses of power (e.g., unwarranted search and seizure) by which the colonists had felt oppressed under the British rule. But the most unique expressions of the rights our founders saw fit to prescribe were contained in the Second Amendment (the right to “keep and bear arms” which “shall not be infringed”) and the Tenth Amendment (reserving to the states all powers not delegated to the federal government). In both cases, these amendments express the concerns of the Anti-Federalists that the federal government might obtain too much power, becoming not the servant of the people, but rather their master. You cannot understand our Constitution and its Bill of Rights without studying the debates over ratification, a point made by M.E. Bradford in Original Intentions: On the Making and Ratification of the United States Constitution. Every student of American history is (or rather should be) familiar with The Federalist Papers, in which James Madison, Alexander Hamilton and John Jay made their arguments in favor of ratifying the new Constitution.

But those arguments cannot be fully understood without reference to the arguments of the Anti-Federalists, who opposed ratification. The Constitution could not have been adopted as the supreme law of the land if its proponents had not succeeded in assuring delegates to the state ratification conventions that this new government would not become a centralized tyrannical power, as the Anti-Federalists claimed.

My friends, go read it all! Pass it around urge everyone to read this! Most of America’s issues, maybe all of them can be found in our lack of adherence to our Constitution. In fact, our Constitution is largely ignored by both parties and by the citizens. It has been referenced when convenient, and then forgotten by far too many in our government. It is not taught in school as it should be taught. America cannot survive if this continues. We cannot be America by erasing or ignoring what America is.

History once buried will never rise again

Some of the history that is being re-written, or erased right now, will never return to us, if we do not change the numerous narratives that lie about this nation, and our history. Here are two such stories they are burying

An addition to the Blogroll. Mostly Cajun

Read Time:1 Minute, 11 Second

In fairness, I have added several blogs to the links, but was too lazy to note them. I will venture to improve in announcing additions. The one I just added is Mostly Cajun. Here is their latest post

TODAY IN HISTORY June 23

1713 – The former French residents of Acadia are given one year to declare allegiance to Britain or leave Nova Scotia, Canada. Since I’m sitting here in Southwest Louisiana, you might figure how well that worked out for the hard-headed ones.

1812 – Napoleonic Wars: Napoleon I of France invades Russia. In the precise verbiage of military studies, this is known as “letting your alligator mouth overload your mosquito ass.”

1848
 – Beginning of the June Days Uprising in Paris, France. Why? Because the government was going to shut down a make-work welfare program. Don’t laugh too hard. We’re just about there, folks!

1865 – American Civil War: at Fort Towson in the Oklahoma Territory, Confederate, Brigadier General Stand Watie surrenders the last significant rebel army. He’s full-blooded Cherokee, by the way. You know how racist those Confederates are!

That last entry, regarding Stand Watie and the last surrender of any significant Confederate force caught my eye. Here is a trivia question Gen. Watie was Cherokee In all five Indian tribes fought with the Confederacy can you name them? Yes, Cherokee was one, so what are the other four?
