Compassion is one of the greatest of human virtues. But effective compassion comes with an obligation to do more than what merely feels and sounds good. Public policies motivated by compassion must also consider the full complexity of the challenge—the unintended consequences and the reality of human nature—and strike a balance between what is desired and what is possible. Often the most beneficial expressions of compassion appear harsh and punitive, yet in offering more lasting and comprehensive solutions, do more to alleviate human suffering

Without taking a balanced and holistic approach to compassion, special interests hijack public policy and reap perpetual profits working on problems that never go away. For them, ineffective compassion is good business. But it leaves behind a wasteland.

If envy and resentment are the currency of the Left—driving, as it does, their attacks on privilege and their demands for equity—then compassion is the gold that backs their currency. Emotional appeals to voters and politicians demanding displays of compassion are the means by which the Left claims the moral high ground. And in those appeals, and the misguided policies that result, entire industries are created—industries populated by individuals whose careers depend on perpetuating the fraud.

DeSantis requests grand jury probe over vaccines

Eager to see what they find

DeSantis said he expects the grand jury will bring “legal accountability for those who committed misconduct.” The governor has previously raised concerns about side effects from mRNA COVID vaccines and has railed against vaccination requirements by some employers.

He also said the state will create a Public Health Integrity Committee to “offer critical assessment” of recommendations and policies from the federal Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the Food and Drug Administration and other organizations. That committee is expected to include several national health figures who have been outspoken against the use of lockdown policies and the need for COVID-19 vaccines.

Hopefully some good comes out of it

A paraplegic former member of the Canadian military shocked MPs on Thursday by testifying that the Department of Veterans Affairs offered her, in writing, the opportunity for a medically assisted death — and even offered to provide the equipment.

Retired corporal Christine Gauthier, who competed for Canada at the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Paralympics and the Invictus Games that same year, spoke before the House of Commons veterans committee and agreed to provide a copy of the letter.

“With respect to me, I have a letter in my file, because I had to face that as well,” said Gauthier, referring to the debate about veterans being offered the option of medical assistance in dying (MAID).

“I have a letter saying that if you’re so desperate, madam, we can offer you MAID, medical assistance in dying,” said Gauthier who first injured her back in a training accident in 1989.

A couple of days ago we reported the looming threat of an “assault weapons” and magazine ban in Illinois, where Democrats are planning on taking full advantage of a lowered threshold for legislative passage in the upcoming lame-duck session and using their overwhelming majority to jam through the bans over the objections of Republicans and even some downstate Democrats.

Here is the deal…….

As Eldridge details in a recent post on Maxon’s website, the particulars of HB 5855 “should horrify any gun owner.”

Major trouble areas of the bill:

State-wide registry of all currently owned “Assault Weapons”

Ban on sales of “Assault Weapons”

Ban on sale and possession of all (long gun and hand gun) magazines holding more than 10 rounds

Raise the age for FOID eligibility to 21

Firearm Restraining Orders extend from the current 6 to 12 months

This bill has an immediate effective date, as soon as the Governor signs it.

Possession of all 10+ round magazines is illegal. Manufacture, possession, delivery, sale, and purchase of assault weapons (p. 53-65) is illegal. Only weapons personally owned before the effective date are exempt and must be registered with the State Police 300 days after the Governor signs this legislation. Hello Registry! And you must pay $25 to register your “assault rifles.” This includes all pistols with threaded barrels.

I would think this tramples the recent Bruen ruling, so more court fights are coming. Again, the Left is not going to stop, ever.

An Ethics App at Clemson for students to “report” each other…..

Students at Clemson University can now anonymously report real or perceived misconduct by peers, faculty or staff with a single text.

The public, South Carolina-based institution recently announced it would become the first university to offer campus-wide the “RealResponse platform,” described as an “anonymous ethics reporting app” and a way to make the school “safe,” officials stated in a mid-October news release.

The Clemson Athletics Department has used it since 2016, and now it is being expanded to everyone; Clemson students, faculty and staff can use the system to anonymously text administration reports of “misconduct and integrity issues.”

“Students, faculty and staff can now send anonymous text tips, including photos and videos,” the university stated in the news release. “Activity on the platform is monitored by Clemson’s Office of Internal Auditing and the Office of University Compliance and Ethics.”

Some students expressed concern.

Some students expressed concerns? Some? In a sane society that would read the vast majority of students…….But, that would be a sane society, and tragically that is no longer a sane society.

Go read it all, this is not good not at all. Think how this empowers the “woke” faculty and students to target anyone behaving in a manner these Karen starter kits do not approve of.

This story from Moonbattery made me remember the first time I heard of it

Covid was only the beginning. The Liberal World Order learned a lot about how much tyranny we will tolerate. These lessons will be applied to the next pandemic. At the B20 (part of the G20 Summit in Bali), Indonesia’s Health Minister Budi Gunadi Sadikin has called for digital health passports:

“Let’s have a digital health certificate acknowledged by WHO. If you have been vaccinated or tested properly, then you can move around. So for the next pandemic, instead of stopping the movement of the people, one hundred percent… you can still provide some movement of the people.”

As in the Soviet Union, you will still be allowed to move around on a limited basis, so long as you go where authorities want you.

Incidentally, the WHO is largely funded by American taxpayers but largely controlled by the Chinese Communist Party.

YES evil is very real, and it did not die with Hitler, or Stalin, or Mao, it is still here. It lives in the hearts of some men, and we must never forget that!

It has become glaringly obvious that no matter what happens, the left has selected leftists to decide what is settled and what questions we, the people, may ask.

They have decided for example, that the “science” is settled on climate change, electric cars, and gender identity.

Debates surrounding history, and how to teach it? Parents who wish to debate that question are considered threats by teachers unions. Therefore discussion or debate is VERBOTEN! So SILENCE! It is none of parents business what is taught to your children! Same when it comes to gender identities, trans students, etc. NO QUESTIONS!

Guns, the second amendment, self-defense, the right to carry? Discussion is not welcome. The left, they say has the stats that PROVE guns are bad, and that the second amendment is misunderstood by most dumb gun owners who represent a threat to all our safe spaces. Again, debate? How about SILENCE!!

Pretty much everything is being pushed into to the NO DISCUSSION NEEDED column. And, the ones demanding this standard are all on the left. HMMM, and, sadly, the media seems all too willing to abide by this idiocy. Take, for example, the Paul Pelosi assault story. Apparently anyone who questions any aspect of the story is a “dangerous radical pushing MISINFORMATION! And who is pushing that message? Yes, Democrats, but, also the media whose job is, in fact, journalism! So, the media will attack anyone who, asks questions, or investigates the case. Yes, you read that correctly. The media, the journalists are, in large part condemning, journalism! Seems journalism is now misinforation

Strange times these are my friends. Strange, until you remember what Marxists always do, they control, tightly control, information. Those that seek knowledge for themselves? Given that the bakery referred the couple to another baker who would — we assume; it isn’t specified in the article — bake the requested cake, there was no denial which would have prevented them from getting their ‘wedding’ cake. Rather, this was an attempt to force the Millers to go against their religious beliefs, or go bankrupt for holding them, because the homosexual activists want to use the power of government to compel compliance and obeisance to their lifestyles and belief. What part of live and let live do the activists not understand?

Oh, I’m sorry: it’s not that they don’t understand it, it’s that they feel that they have the power to force compliance, to force unquestioning acceptance, and they are damned well going to use it.

the Biden administration is rolling out new rules that would raise the cost of creating and maintaining jobs, which would be a bad idea at any time, but especially with more economic pain looming. It at least somewhat resembles a disastrous California policy that has destroyed lives and livelihoods in that state. Details:

The Labor Department on Tuesday unveiled a proposal that would make it more likely for millions of janitors, home-care and construction workers and gig drivers to be classified as employees rather than independent contractors. Companies are required to provide certain benefits and protections to employees but not to contractors, such as paying a minimum wage, overtime, a portion of a worker’s Social Security taxes and contributions to unemployment insurance. The proposed rule is essentially a test that the Labor Department will apply to determine whether workers are contractors or employees for companies…The new version of the test lowers the bar for that employee classification from the current test, which the Trump administration’s Labor Department created…The proposal would apply only to laws that the department enforced, such as the federal minimum wage. States and other federal agencies, like the Internal Revenue Service, set their own criteria for employment status. But many employers and regulators in other jurisdictions are likely to consider the department’s interpretation when making decisions about worker classification, and many judges are likely to use it as a guide. As a result, the proposal is a potential blow to gig companies and other service providers that argue their workers are contractors, though it would not immediately affect the status of those workers.

A move that will hurt workers, help unions, and further broaden the overreach of the State. Those that say it will “help” workers are fools or liars. Many people love being able to work when they want, “gig” work helped them do that. And of course big government types cannot stand that can they? These gig workers are not victims of anything.
