American Greatness

Turning California Purple
Can conservatives ever win again in the Golden State?

California is the epicenter of Democratic power in the United States. The ultra-blue state backs up its progressive agenda with a state legislature that commands a Democrat “mega” majority in both the State Assembly (62-18) and the State Senate (32-8). Every higher office in the state, from Governor down to State Superintendent of Public Instruction, is occupied by Democratic politicians. California’s last Republican governor was Arnold Schwarzenegger, a RINO whose legacy includes his 2006 signing of the Global Warming Solutions Act, an authoritarian, economic power grab that has further concentrated the wealth and all but destroyed upward mobility in the once golden state.

By now every American who values their political and financial freedom should know that what happens in California does not stay in California. At $3.6 trillion, the state’s GDP is not only by far the largest in America, but the wealth imbalance in the state – only edged by New York among large states – spells even more billions for California’s plutocrats. There are an estimated 186 billionaires living in California, almost all of them Democrats. As Mark Zuckerberg proved when he deployed over $400 million to “get-out-the-vote” in Democrat-heavy urban precincts in crucial swing states, California’s billionaires aren’t shy about using their financial clout to buy national elections

Philly Tribune says you don’t need a gun at home

One of the reasons a lot of people own a firearm is because they’re worried about home invasion.

For most people, that worry never becomes a reality, which is a very good thing, but it’s still a strong motivator for many gun owners.

Yet it seems someone at the Philadelphia Tribune figures that you don’t need one.

Did you know that 100 Americans die every day from gun violence and tens of thousands more suffer non-fatal gun injuries? Does that mean that you need to get a gun to protect yourself and your family? Has society become so violent that everyone should arm himself or herself for protection? Do guns really protect a family? What does the data say?

Will Larry Krasner send this case to juvenile court?

We previously reported on the identification of 15-year-old Rasheed Banks, Jr, as the alleged killer of Michael Salerno during a carjacking attempt, and pointed out that The Philadelphia Inquirer had not covered that story. A check of the newspaper’s website shows that they never did catch up to reporting on that.

However, now that young Mr Banks has been captured, the Inky has covered it:

15-year-old suspect arrested in fatal attempted carjacking in South Philadelphia

On July 12, Michael Salerno, 50, attempted to prevent a carjacking of his vehicle on the 1100 block of Porter Street when he was shot in the head.

A Never-Trump Prosecutor Threatens Free Speech

The indictment of Donald Trump for speaking out against the results of the 2020 election, and in the words of the indictment, fomenting “a conspiracy to defraud the United States,” has been challenged by legal commentators from both political parties. These jurists consider the prosecutor’s “novel legal theories” dubious or even preposterous, not to mention unconstitutional. If successful, this politicization of the legal system that attacks one candidate for the presidency and benefits the other, carries with it a huge moral hazard.

Democrat legal scholar Jonathan Turley has identified this risk: “The hatred for Trump is so all-encompassing that legal experts on the political left have ignored the chilling implications of this indictment. This complaint is based largely on statements that are protected under the First Amendment. It would eviscerate free speech and could allow the government to arrest those who are accused of spreading disinformation in elections.”

This corruption of First Amendment law––one already judged unconstitutional in several Supreme Court decisions–– will further empower significantly the already growing threats to free speech. “Woke” Dems for decades have been weakening this foundation of every free government and society. But if Trump’s political enemies can treat the ex-president this way with impunity, then we all will be further down the road to tyranny.

Electric Vehicle Week, #1!

Welcome, gentle readers, to the first installment of SMM Electric Vehicle Week!  It’s EV week for two reasons: (1) There are so many articles published every week I have an enormous backlog.  (2) I’m tired of writing about politics.  OK, OK, you caught me.  The climate loons have made EVs political too, and if they have their way, we’ll all be driving EVs, even though damned few of us can afford the $65,000 average price, which is the point.  What’s that you say?  What about used EVS?  There really is no such market.  Who’s going to buy a used EV with the expectation of having to spend 1/3 or more the MSRP for a battery any day?  One might almost be tempted to believe the self-imagined elite don’t want us driving at all, but they can’t be that cruel and thoughtless…can they?

We begin at Cowboy State Daily, where we learn, yet again, when an EV catches on fire, it provides its own oxygen, so…

Experts in rural firefighting say that electric vehicle fires require so much water that in some cases it’s better to just let them burn.

In a rural state like Wyoming, trucking in the water needed to fully extinguish the fire isn’t always the best solution.

‘An electric vehicle battery fire is not a traditional fire,’ Curt Yanish, a volunteer firefighter with the Sublette County Unified Fire District, told Cowboy State Daily.

Anticipating more electric vehicles (EV) on the road, Yanish said he’s been trying to keep up on how to fight lithium-ion battery fires and pass on what he knows to the other firefighters.

The batteries don’t need oxygen to burn, so there’s really no way to smother an EV battery fire.

All we can do is cool the battery to the point that the burning reaction stops. Our best tool for that is water,’ Yanish said.

  1. The Philadelphia Tribune is a city newspaper primarily covering Philly’s black community, and black males are by far the greatest percentage of shooting and murder victims in the City of Brotherly Love. Relatively few are killed in ‘home invasions,’ but are the victims in the gang gun battles that rage in Philly’s mean streets.
