MORNING REPORT

Good morning, kids. This Thursday, I am traveling back to NYC for a brief visit for the first time in a year, and frankly I’m dreading it:

A teenage girl allegedly slugged an Asian woman riding a Manhattan subway train with her family last week and attacked a witness who was recording her behavior in what police are investigating as a possible hate crime. The still-at-large teen was sitting with two other young girls aboard a southbound F train before she allegedly launched the assaults as the train was approaching the West 4th Street station around 8 p.m. Thursday, according to police and a report.

The trio of girls were shouting and cursing at the family before one allegedly pulled the hair of the 51-year-old mom, punched her repeatedly and made an “anti-ethnic remark” towards the victim, who is Asian, police said. The apparent aggressor also allegedly punched a straphanger, Joanna Lin, who pulled out her phone to record the tumultuous scene, according to the footage Lin later posted to Instagram.

“I’m in shock & still at a loss for words except for what I documented on the reel,” Lin captioned the video. “I’ll be ok, just a bit sore on the head and tailbone.” The other woman, Sue Young, told CBS New York that the violence started when the three teenagers began laughing and pointing at her, her husband and their 11-year-old twin daughters. “It was just insult, after insult, after insult. And, finally, my husband felt like he needed to step in and so he was like, ‘Can you use some better words besides those?’” Young told the station.

The ‘Weirdness Factor’ Cost Republicans

In Ryan Girdusky’s well-researched piece on the American electorate, he includes the following bit of analysis:

A large part of the reason Republicans had a disappointing election result during the midterms was that abortiondenying the legitimacy of the 2020 election, and an overall weirdness factor cost Republicans in both statewide races and suburban congressional districts.

The “weirdness factor” certainly hurt Republicans in 2022. Candidates like Doug Mastriano were perceived, fairly or not, as being “weird.” In politics, that matters.

Some claimed that concerns about ”candidate quality,” weirdness-related or otherwise, were code for opposition to Donald Trump and right-wing populism—you said you didn’t like some of the candidates that Trump endorsed, but what you meant is that you didn’t like the movement Trump represents. How much could ”candidate quality” possibly matter if John Fetterman could win Pennsylvania after having a stroke?

Former U.S. Capitol Police Lieutenant: ‘EVERY Demonstrator and EVERY Police Officer There on J6 Was Set-Up’

Aformer U.S. Capitol Police lieutenant declared in a recent social media post that “EVERY demonstrator and EVERY police officer there on J6 was set-up.” According to former Capitol Police Lt. Tarik “T.K.” Johnson, “every officer was totally blindsided.”

Johnson, who was suspended three days after the Capitol riot for wearing a Trump hat, revealed on Sunday that a “VERY big name” had reached out to him for an interview. In the past year, the former lieutenant has become increasingly vocal about what he witnessed on January 6, 2021.

In his first broadcast interview after the riot, Johnson accused former Assistant Chief Yogananda Pittman of ignoring his repeated calls for direction as the protest spun out of control. Johnson told NPR in January of 2023 that Pittman was the only commander he heard over the radio, “so I heard her, so I said something to the effect that, ‘the Capitol is breached, we have hundreds of demonstrators in the building, what do you want us to do? We need some direction.’ I didn’t hear anything so I was thinking ‘Oh Jesus Christ, we’re going to die here.’”

JK Rowling: Canceled In Seattle

The JK Rowling saga continues. This time, we travel to Seattle, Washington to the Museum of Pop Culture (MoPOP).

MoPOP will continue to display Harry Potter memorabilia but, will scrub any reference to Harry’s creator. You know, that “hateful TERF, JK Rowling”? This all started with a lengthy post by MoPOP’s Chris Moore crafted earlier this year. Chris uses he/they pronouns. Chris is an Exhibitions Project Manager at MoPOP. Chris Moore is also on the board for Seattle Trans and Nonbinary Choral Ensemble (wonder if the group sang a version of “We’re Coming For Your Children?) Chris Moore refers to JK Rowling, in this post, as “She-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named”. Well, Chris got her gender correctly identified so I guess we can give the he/his/they/them/theirs a gold star.

You-Know-Who started dancing around transphobic statements in 2018 and became more vocal in 2019 by supporting a person who was fired for being transphobic. In June of 2020, she fully committed to these viewpoints and went on long, hateful Twitter tirades.”-Chris Moore

BIDEN DISCOVERS MOST BLACK PEOPLE AREN’T REALLY BLACK

In 2020, Biden snapped to the host of a black radio show, “Well I tell you what, if you have a problem figuring out whether you’re for me or Trump, then you ain’t black.”

The host had wanted him to stay and answer more questions and Biden curtly dismissed the idea that there were any more questions to ask. Any black person who didn’t already support him wasn’t black. But, according to Biden, it turns out most black people may not be black.

Reuters notes that according to its recent poll, “18% of black Americans would pick Trump over Biden in a hypothetical matchup, compared to 46% who favored Biden, including about one in four black men, compared to about one in seven black women.”
