The Second Civil War #49: Get Trump!
I’ve been refraining from commenting on the Trump case, as I often do in criminal cases, until more information became available. Today, 04-04-23, Donald Trump was arraigned, and charged with 34 felony counts of falsifying business records. All of these counts relate to the non-disclosure agreement between Trump and porn actress Stephanie Clifford, AKA Stormy Daniels, over an alleged affair. What’s interesting about that is Daniels actually signed a document specifically saying the affair never happened. She sued Trump for defamation, lost, and is having to pay him hundreds of thousands for attorney fees. What’s also interesting about the indictment and its 34 counts is the alleged offenses begin on 02-14-17 and end on 12-05-17. I’ll explain the significance of those dates shortly, gentle readers. The indictment and statement of facts—affidavit—are available here.
As regular readers know, during my police career I wrote many affidavits on criminal matters. An affidavit is a sworn statement specifically listing the crime or crimes—by statute number and text–a defendant is alleged to have committed. One can’t just say: “this guy broke the law.” It must provide proof of every element of those crimes. Without that proof, no competent prosecutor would ever charge a crime. In fact, had I submitted an affidavit that didn’t specify each crime, that didn’t provide proof to fulfill every element of every crime, my supervisors would have asked: “where the hell’s the probable cause?” Such a faulty affidavit would have never been submitted to a prosecutor.

Biden: Afghanistan Withdrawal Mess Was Totally Trump’s Fault
They’ll blame President Trump for everything. Including the Biden Administration’s complete and utter mishandling of the Afghanistan withdrawal.
The White House released its congressionally-requested post-mortem of the Afghanistan withdrawal Thursday in a report that heavily blamed the Trump administration for the chaos.
‘President Biden’s choices for how to execute a withdrawal from Afghanistan were severely constrained by conditions created by his predecessor,’ the White House report read.
It then went on to give other reasons for pulling out, including ‘America’s goal was never to nation-build’ and saying the U.S. presence there had ‘unclear objectives and no end in sight.’

Chicago votes for more crime
Some of us hoped, when Chicago voted Mayor Frogface out of office in the Democratic primary, that the city had finally come to its senses. But the runoff election proves Chicago is irredeemably lost:
The residents of the Windy City were offered a choice between someone who wanted to rebuild the Chicago PD and bring down the crime rates and someone who was on the record saying he wanted to defund the police. By the slimmest of margins, a bare majority of voters decided to stick with the carjacking epidemic because it’s been working out so well thus far, I suppose. “Progressive” candidate Brandon Johnson bested pro-cop Paul Vallas with a 51.4 to 48.6 margin. . . .
Chicago is well known for the “Magnificent Mile,” a formerly prosperous and productive retail district filled with high-end shops and fine dining establishments. Now it looks like a war zone. For the past year or more, it’s been the site of robberies, assaults, smash-and-grab heists, and even murders. Business owners have been fleeing the area. . .
