American Greatness

DeSantis, Newsom, and the Algae Apocalypse
Vanquishing woke extremists is only half the battle. Right-sizing the environmentalist movement is equally important, and may be a harder battle.

While purists on both sides may find the California Democrat and the Florida Republican to be far from perfect embodiments of their ideals, a contest between these two governors would nonetheless be a contest between two very different visions for the future of America insofar as they govern two big states that diverge on almost every policy of consequence.

The prevailing perception of a hypothetical race between Newsom and DeSantis focuses on cultural issues, with both of them claiming their state is a beacon of freedom. But a comparison of equal consequence could be based on their response to environmental challenges.

Why No One Should Ever Listen to Max Boot

Max Boot, one of the most bloodthirsty American analysts and commentators, has apparently woken up long after most Americans with half his education, about the limits of American power and the disastrous wars in Afghanistan and Iraq. Thankfully for us, he has penned his reawakening in the pages of Foreign Affairs, that astute bulwark of the establishment, a journal of which I am, in fact, a subscriber.

For 20 years, Boot has been calling for regime change, democracy building abroad, and even leaving American troops in dangerous brushfire to “polic[e] the frontiers of the Pax Americana.” Now, he says he’s changed.

Murphy: if you don’t support gun control, you don’t “give a crap about our children”

One of the most common tropes of the anti-gunners is their claim that if you don’t support their gun control efforts you don’t care about kids, or at the very least you care more about your guns.

Sen. Chris Murphy (D-CT) is the latest to deploy that idiotic argument in support of criminalizing a constitutional right, telling a podcast host this week that Republicans “don’t give a crap” about kids and “gun violence”.

Murphy made the comments on Salon’s “Salon Talks” podcast published Tuesday.

“So to me, we can’t catalog the epidemic of gun violence merely by how many shootings we’ve had or even how many homicides we’ve had. You have to talk about a generation of kids, specifically in these violence-prone neighborhoods, that we are literally losing because their brains change when they’re exposed to war-like levels of trauma,” Murphy said.

“It is beyond me why Republicans who claim to care about the health of our kids don’t seem to give a crap about our children who are being exposed to these epidemic, cataclysmic rates of gun violence,” Murphy said.

DeSantis privately acknowledges he will run for president in 2024: report

Florida Republican Gov. Ron DeSantis has told people in private that he will launch a campaign for the White House later this year, according to a report.

While DeSantis, 44, has not publicly said that he will enter the 2024 fray, the Washington Post reported on Thursday that in recent private conversations with allies, the governor of the Sunshine State has described his presidential candidacy as a certainty.

DeSantis, who was re-elected in a landslide last November, is not expected to announce his entry into the 2024 race until after the Florida state legislative session ends in May.

Preparations for his expected presidential run are far along, according to the Washington Post.
