Schiff, Swalwell, Omar respond after Speaker McCarthy keeps them off committees: ‘Political vengeance’

Reps Adam Schiff, Eric Swalwell, and Ilhan Omar, who were stripped of their committee assignments by House Speaker Kevin McCarthy, have accused him of “political vengeance” in a statement Tuesday evening after he again blocked their appointments.

“It’s disappointing but not surprising that Kevin McCarthy has capitulated to the right wing of his caucus, undermining the integrity of the Congress, and harming our national security in the process,” said Schiff, D-Calif., Swalwell, D-Calif., and Omar, D-Minn., in a joint statement.

Nebraska university refuses to lift ban on pro-Second Amendment posters

Creighton University will not remove its ban on pro-Second Amendment posters despite a student libertarian group fighting over the last several months to overturn the policy on First Amendment grounds.

The private Omaha, Nebraska-based school ordered student members of Young Americans for Liberty to remove political posters and materials bearing images of guns and slogans that some found offensive last semester.

Mismanaged Cities Lead to Violence

Most of America was untouched by violence last year. That is true even though homicide rates spiked in the last two years. Most of us were unaffected because murder is localized. We saw violence on the TV, but not on our streets. Only a tiny fraction of U.S. counties account for nearly all of our homicides. Even in our most violent counties, violence is confined to a few zip-codes. We are not all the same.

The worst 5% of counties accounted for 73% of homicides. That is a slight increase from previous years. Meanwhile, 52% of counties recorded no homicides at all in 2020. Another 16% of counties recorded only a single homicide.

Man Becomes a Wolf to Escape Reality

Toru Ueda is a Japanese engineer. He likes to de-stress by putting on a wolf costume. And I don’t mean something from the Halloween Store. The New York Post reports that Ueda dropped $23,000 USD on a wolf suit that looks like the real thing. And it appears he got his money’s worth. The costume is darn near undistinguishable from an actual wolf. It was made by Zeppet, a company that creates not only costumes for films but everything from sci-fi creatures to children’s characters. Ueda wanted the costume to be as realistic as possible and allow him to walk normally.

Dishonest Don Lemon: DeSantis Making It ‘Illegal To Teach Slavery’ in Florida Schools

Don Lemon hosted a segment on today’s CNN This Morning to discuss Ron DeSantis’s decision to uphold the Florida State Department of Education’s decision to deny the College Board the opportunity to run a pilot AP (Advanced Placement) course on African American Studies pushing themes like “Intersectionality and Activism.”

At one point, CNN’s Audie Cornish said “I don’t know where he wants to draw the line. Slavery was political at one point.”

Responded Lemon:

“So, slavery became illegal. Now it’s going to be illegal to teach slavery in schools. It seems really odd.”
